18 Ways to Improve your Body Language

Improving your body language can make a big difference in your people skills, attractiveness and general mood.

There is no specific advice on how to use your body language. What you do might be interpreted in several ways, depending on the setting and who you are talking to. You'll probably want to use your body language differently when talking to your boss compared to when you talk to a girl/guy you're interested in. These are some common interpretations of body language and often more effective ways to communicate with your body.

First, to change your body language you must be aware of your body language. Notice how you sit, how you stand, how you use you hands and legs, what you do while talking to someone.

You might want to practice in front of a mirror. Yeah, it might seem silly but no one is watching you. This will give you good feedback on how you look to other people and give you an opportunity to practise a bit before going out into the world.

Another tip is to close your eyes and visualize how you would stand and sit to feel confident, open and relaxed or whatever you want to communicate. See yourself move like that version of yourself. Then try it out.

You might also want observe friends, role models, movie stars or other people you think has good body language. Observe what they do and you don't. Take bits and pieces you like from different people. Try using what you can learn from them.

Some of these tips might seem like you are faking something. But fake it til you make it is a useful way to learn something new. And remember, feelings work backwards too. If you smile a bit more you will feel happier. If you sit up straight you will feel more energetic and in control. If you slow down your movements you'll feel calmer. Your feelings will actually reinforce your new behaviours and feelings of weirdness will dissipate.

In the beginning easy it's to exaggerate your body language. You might sit with your legs almost ridiculously far apart or sit up straight in a tense pose all the time. That's ok. And people aren't looking as much as you think, they are worrying about their own problems. Just play around a bit, practice and monitor yourself to find a comfortable balance.

1. Don't cross your arms or legs – You have probably already heard you shouldn't cross your arms as it might make you seem defensive or guarded. This goes for your legs too. Keep your arms and legs open.

2. Have eye contact, but don't stare – If there are several people you are talking to, give them all some eye contact to create a better connection and see if they are listening. Keeping too much eye-contact might creep people out. Giving no eye-contact might make you seem insecure. If you are not used to keeping eye-contact it might feel a little hard or scary in the beginning but keep working on it and you'll get used to it.

3. Don't be afraid to take up some space – Taking up space by for example sitting or standing with your legs apart a bit signals self-confidence and that you are comfortable in your own skin.

4. Relax your shoulders – When you feel tense it's easily winds up as tension in your shoulders. They might move up and forward a bit. Try to relax. Try to loosen up by shaking the shoulders a bit and move them back slightly.

5. Nod when they are talking – nod once in a while to signal that you are listening. But don't overdo it and peck like Woody Woodpecker.

6. Don't slouch, sit up straight – but in a relaxed way, not in a too tense manner.

7. Lean, but not too much – If you want to show that you are interested in what someone is saying, lean toward the person talking. If you want to show that you're confident in yourself and relaxed lean back a bit. But don't lean in too much or you might seem needy and desperate for some approval. Or lean back too much or you might seem arrogant and distant.

8. Smile and laugh – lighten up, don't take yourself too seriously. Relax a bit, smile and laugh when someone says something funny. People will be a lot more inclined to listen to you if you seem to be a positive person. But don't be the first to laugh at your own jokes, it makes you seem nervous and needy. Smile when you are introduced to someone but don't keep a smile plastered on your face, you'll seem insincere.

9. Don't touch your face – it might make you seem nervous and can be distracting for the listeners or the people in the conversation.

10. Keep you head up – Don't keep your eyes on the ground, it might make you seem insecure and a bit lost. Keep your head up straight and your eyes towards the horizon.

11. Slow down a bit – this goes for many things. Walking slower not only makes you seem more calm and confident, it will also make you feel less stressed. If someone addresses you, don't snap you're neck in their direction, turn it a bit more slowly instead.

12. Don't fidget – try to avoid, phase out or transform fidgety movement and nervous ticks such as shaking your leg or tapping your fingers against the table rapidly. You'll seem nervous and fidgeting can be a distracting when you try to get something across. Declutter your movements if you are all over the place. Try to relax, slow down and focus your movements.

13. Use your hands more confidently – instead of fidgeting with your hands and scratching your face use them to communicate what you are trying to say. Use your hands to describe something or to add weight to a point you are trying to make. But don't use them to much or it might become distracting. And don't let your hands flail around, use them with some control.

14. Lower your drink – don't hold your drink in front of your chest. In fact, don't hold anything in front of your heart as it will make you seem guarded and distant. Lower it and hold it beside your leg instead.

15. Realise where you spine ends – many people (including me until recently) might sit or stand with a straight back in a good posture. However, they might think that the spine ends where the neck begins and therefore crane the neck forward in a Montgomery Burns-pose. Your spine ends in the back of your head. Keep you whole spine straight and aligned for better posture.

16. Don't stand too close –one of the things we learned from Seinfeld is that everybody gets weirded out by a close-talker. Let people have their personal space, don't invade it.

17. Mirror – Often when you get along with a person, when the two of you get a good connection, you will start to mirror each other unconsciously. That means that you mirror the other person's body language a bit. To make the connection better you can try a bit of proactive mirroring. If he leans forward, you might lean forward. If he puts hands in pocket, you might do the same. But don't react instantly and don't mirror every change in body language. Then weirdness will ensue.

18. Keep a good attitude – last but not least, keep a positive, open and relaxed attitude. How you feel will come through in your body language and can make a major difference. For information on how make yourself feel better read 10 ways to change how you feel and for relaxation try A very simple way to feel relaxed for 24 hours.

You can change your body language but as all new habits it takes a while. Especially things like keeping you head up might take time to correct if you have spent thousands of days looking at your feet. And if you try and change to many things at once it might become confusing and feel overwhelming.

Take a couple of these body language bits to work on every day for three to four weeks. By then they should have developed into new habits and something you'll do without even thinking about it. If not, keep on until it sticks. Then take another couple of things you'd like to change and work on them.

  • Establish rapport with your audience. If a microphone is available, adjust and adapt your voice accordingly.
  • Maintain sincere eye contact with your audience. If what you have prepared is obviously not getting across to your audience, change your strategy mid-stream if you are well prepared to do so.
  • Allow yourself and your audience a little time to reflect and think.
  • Check out the location ahead of time to ensure seating arrangements for audience, whiteboard, blackboard, lighting, location of projection screen, sound system, etc. are suitable for your presentation.
  • Tell audience ahead of time that you will be giving out an outline of your presentation so that they will not waste time taking unnecessary notes during your presentation.
  • Humour : Tell jokes if youre good at telling jokes. If you arent good, it is best to leave the jokes behind. Theres nothing worse than a punch line that has no punch.
  • Tell stories : Stories make you a real person not just a deliverer of information. Use personal experiences to bring your material to life. No matter how dry your material is, you can always find a way to humanise it. Keep audience interested throughout your entire presentation. Remember that an interesting speech makes time fly, but a boring speech is always too long to endure even if the presentation time is the same.
  • Using Public Speaking Environment Try not to get stuck in one place. Use all the space thats available to you. If your space is confined (say a meeting room or even presenting at a table) use stronger body language to convey your message.

The Search For Happiness

Wish You a Very Good Day ...
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:  The Search For Happiness

Throughout history, human beings have desired and searched for two things, happiness and a perfect relationship.

There is an old truth, "You cannot search for what, you have not already had or known." In other words, our search is motivated by a deep subconscious memory of the original, perfect and eternal relationship.  It is only when our relationship with god being is restored that we can experience true happiness or bliss.   Bliss is the deepest spiritual happiness we can experience.  It is experienced only when we are free of all attachment, when we no longer mis identify with anything physical and when our inner mental state is not dependent on anything or anyone.

At its highest level, our relationship with God is pure and non-dependent, and therefore blissful.   Deep within the soul, there is a memory of the bliss of this perfect union and it is the deepest motivation in our search for the perfect relationship, for the perfect happiness.   However, instead of seeking at the level of spirit, we seek at the level of mind (personality) and body.   We search in those around us for the perfect partner - our soul mate. It is not incorrect to have worldly relationships, but there needs to be a deep realization inside each one of us that our true soul mate, is the One with whom we can have an ever-lasting, eternal relationship, the One with whom we have the deepest eternal bond (over a period of many births), the One from whom we will experience everlasting, eternal, unconditional attainments.

We are all human beings, and nobody is perfect in this universe. Not necessary that our life partner will be as per our wish / rules & regulations! Compromise and adjustments only can maintain a long lasting & good relationship. Kindly, therefore, do not search for perfection in your soul-mate to lead a Happy Life!

Increase Happiness: Can Happiness be Trained like a Muscle?

increase happiness Increase Happiness: Can Happiness be Trained like a Muscle?
What if instead of working out in the gym we dedicated 10-15 minutes a day to increase our happiness? Would it not be great to train your mind and notice yourself becoming more positive, more satisfied with your life and eventually more successful?
It actually works in this exact order. Only now have the bright minds of positive psychology likeShawn Achor started to burst the bubble of “I need to work harder to be more successful, so that I can become happier.”
Many of us still live by this formula waiting for happiness to come. “I need to work harder on my relationships, to become a better parent, a better spouse, a better friend and, eventually, everyone will love and appreciate me”, “I need to work harder to get promoted and then I will be happy with my career”, “I need to work harder to make more money and then I will be able to retire, buy a beautiful beach home and live the life of my dreams”.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we should not work harder. I am saying that we should change the formula to
I need to work harder to increase my happiness right now”.
Because while we continue to think that our happiness depends on our achievements, we are doomed. Capital ‘D’.
Every time we achieve one goal, our brain simply raises the bar higher and re-frames our expectations. So this state of absolute bliss, unexplainable joy and overpowering positivity never lasts long enough for us to consider our life truly “happy”.
Psychologists, however, noticed that being happier actually makes us more successful. When we enter a positive state of mind our productivity and creativity automatically get a boost, we are more fun to be around, we learn faster and perform better.
Another thing they proved is that by doing a number of “exercises” for only 21 days, we can actually become happier and even create long-lasting positive changes in our lives.

5 Exercises That Increase Happiness and Positivity

When I first found out about Positive Psychology, I realized that I have been intuitively doing many of these exercises for years now. Maybe you are already doing some of them too.
But in any case, I suggest that you check the list and add some of these happiness exercises to your daily routine, because they really work
3 Gratitudes.
Make it a habit to write down 3 NEW things that you are grateful for very day. In the beginning it may be a little challenging, but practicing this exercise will help your mind to scan every situation for the positive information first and not dwell on the negative.
I started doing this a long time ago and I would say that it took me longer than 21 days to fully re-wire my thinking pattern, but it was well worth the effort. One interesting change I’ve noticed is that I’ve become less sensitive to negativity and critique. I no longer take it personally.
Journaling.
Write down every positive emotion, everyday achievements or kindness that people have demonstrated to you. This is a great way to re-live positive experiences and keep your mind focused on your blessings. I personally don’t do it, but I do write for the blog. So I guess, it counts.
Exercise.
Who would imagine that by exercising our body we can actually raise our happiness level? But regular workouts do affect our sense of happiness on several levels.
On the physical level it triggers the release of the feel-good hormone – dopamine. On the energy level regular exercise helps to combat fatigue and apathy. And on the mental level exercise teaches our brain that our behavior matters. By pushing your body a little further, you are actually boosting your self-confidence, sense of achievement.
Meditation.
There are many benefits of meditation and an increased sense of happiness is one of them. Meditation helps to calm anxiety, stop the flow of negative thinking and learn the one skill indispensable for staying happy – being able to stay focused on the present moment and savor it.
Random acts of kindness.
Acts of kindness not only create ripples of positivity, they also contribute to our own happiness. You have probably noticed how giving a gift is often a lot more satisfying than receiving it or how making a person laugh feels better than just reading the joke.
Neurologists have noticed that when we engage in activities that help others, our brain releases endorphins, which induce a feeling of well-being. It has also been suggested that the regular release of endorphins is linked to increased longevity.
It seems that doing random acts of kindness not only helps us to stay happier, but to live longer… so that we could help even more people. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

22 THINGS TO KEEP

You are what you eat -and what you don't eat. Similarly, life depends on what you keep and what you don't keep. There are many things in life that people may keep, but only a few are truly worth keeping. Here is a list of what to keep (and how) for a brighter, happier and more  fulfilling life.

1)
Keep calm. Life can be unnerving and if you don't make an effort to keep collected and focused, you could easily lose your cool. Take regular, conscious deep breaths to calm and center yourself.

2)
Keep your chin up. Not only is it good for your posture and diminishes your double chin, it also helps you maintain an "I can handle it" attitude. By keeping your chin up, you can keep your head above water.

3)
Keep your spirits high. Always maintain a positive and joyful attitude. Remember that no one can perk you up like yourself. Keep your spirits high when the going gets rough by focusing on your dreams and counting your blessings.

4)
Keep your word. The true measure of a man is if he keeps his word. Honorable and trustworthy is the man who stands by what he says and promises. It is important to think well before speaking because once a word is uttered and released into the universe, its vibrations could no longer be erased.

5)
Keep in time with your inner drummer. Don't be swayed by others into following the confusing beat of their drums. Although it is sometimes necessary to adjust to the pace of others, it is best to keep in step with your personal rhythm and to dance to your own music.

6)
Keep in touch with the child in youThe source of creativity in your life is that little child within you. He questions, he marvels, he imagines and invents. Stay in touch with him, and be young and creative for life!

7)
Keep abreast of the times. The world is moving so fast. Know what's happening, what's in style, what's au courant, what's relevant, what's important. Learn the hottest trends and the latest in technology. Don't be caught in a time warp or you'll be left behind.

8)
Keep in shape. Your shape shows your state of health. Your body is the vessel that you journey through life in. Keep it healthy and strong. Don't be one of those people who say, "I'm in shape; round is a shape!"

9)
Keep your mouth shut. People talk too much. We language ourselves to our own destruction and defeat. Know when to talk and when to shut up. Avoid being too verbose. Oftentimes, silence speaks more eloquently than words.

10)
Keep good friends. Good friends are hard to find. Nurture friendships that make your plight through life easier, more wonderful and meaningful. Truly poor is the man who has no good friends.

11)
Keep great memories, not heavy objects. In the very end, good memories of life are what we will be left with, not jewels and riches that we can't bring when we finally go. Live each moment beautifully. Linked together, these magical moments create a magnificent life.

12)
Keep a diary. Writing a journal is therapeutic. Record the important events in your life, your dreams and aspirations, even your failures and disappointments. When you trace back events in your life, you are bound to learn lessons from them as well as find great inspiration and strength.

13)
Keep saying grace and thanks. Blessed is he who says grace before he eats and gives thanks for all  the gifts he receives daily. Maintain a thankful attitude and focus on your blessings instead of disappointments.

14)
Keep on moving forward. The universe moves forward in time. Don't get stuck in yesterday; make an effort to move ahead to a better life. Drop those unnecessary pieces of material and emotional baggage that weigh you down and keep you from flying to your loftiest dreams.

15)
Keep out of danger. He who exposes himself to danger finds it. Don't court danger; avoid it. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Look out for number one (that's you!), and always stay safe and sound.

16)
Keep up the good work. Success is built upon success. The more you do, the more you achieve; the more you achieve, the better you get at doing it. Make success a habit by keeping up the good work.

17)
Keep young. Do everything in your power to stay strong, supple and youthful. Think young; feel young. A wise man once said "It is never too late to be what you might have been." Remember that age is a number and that youth is an attitude.

18)
Keep on dancing. Life is a dance through space and time. Embellish whatever music life plays for you with your own fresh orchestration and creative choreography. Be excited in your heart and keep your feet light with happiness.

19)
Keep on loving. Love is the reason we were created. Love diminishes when hoarded but multiplies when shared. Give it and feel it overflow in your heart. Love cures all sadness, pain and sorrow. Lonely is he who does not give love away and therefore gets none in return.

20)
Keep on dreaming. Most men, even if they are young, are dead - that is, if they can no longer dream. Our dreams are what keep us young and alive; they give us that sparkle in our eyes. Our dreams keep us going even while everything around us says, "Stop."

21)
Keep on hoping. Never lose hope. Tomorrow will be another day that will bring new hope and greater blessings. Keep faith in the abundance of the universe and the mystery and perfection of life. Hope for nothing but the best and that's what you will be granted.

22)
Keep on believing. Belief is the mother of reality. What you believe becomes your truth. Believe in yourself, believe in the magic of the universe, believe in the power of your dreams. And most of all, believe you can do it, so you can have all your heart's desires!

These You Must Not Keep
1)
Don't keep up with the Joneses. Just because your neighbor bought a red Ferrari, you, too, must get  one. Don't join the bandwagon and keep away from the "herd mentality." Too much unhappiness in this world is caused by comparisons - comparing yourself and trying to measure up to other people. There is really no need to live up to others' expectations if it would just bring you  inconvenience and misery.

2)
Don't keep issues and grudges. The reason most of us stay miserable is because we keep issues, grudges, and problems. Detox yourself of complaints and issues that keep you from being the best that you could be. Try to solve all problems that beset you; never leave anything unresolved. The questions and puzzles of life are what make it challenging and exciting.

3)
Don't keep resentments and memories of painful experiences. Life is not a bed of roses so you must learn to let go of negative feelings and memories of painful experiences. It's hard to go on living  with a heavy heart. Pardon, forgive, forget if you can, and move on.

10 Ways to Communicate Better at Work

Communication is arguably one of the most important business skills, no matter what your industry. Yet so many of us haven't been trained in how to communicate with co-workers and clients. Here are some tips to help you become a better communicator:

1. Listen.
Most of us are terrible listeners. Instead of truly listening to what the person is saying, we interrupt, prepare our response, or think we already know what the speaker is going to say next. It's impossible to understand what someone needs or wants if we don't give them our undivided attention.

2. Pay attention to body language.
Body language can tell you just as much as what a person says, if not more. Observe how they act when they talk. Is your co-worker saying she can meet a deadline, but wringing her hands while she says it? She might be afraid to tell you it will be hard to make the due date

3. Consider communication preference.
Not everyone likes to communicate the same way. Email works for some, but others would rather pick up the phone and talk, text, or even use social media or instant messaging to relay something. Respect the person you're trying to contact and use the method she seems to prefer. If you've called a client several times and always get her voicemail, but she's always quick to respond to email, switch to email instead

4. Consider your tone.
The problem with email and social media is that it can be difficult to determine the tone. You may mean something as a joke, but if it comes  off pushy or angry, you could cause an unintended reaction from the recipient. Make sure your language is clear, and if you are angry, take a  few minutes to cool down before you type. Better yet, meet in person so nothing is misconstrued.

5. Don't be too casual.
Getting along with your work colleagues can help you do your job better, but don't take it too far in your communication on the job. Keep the cursing for after hours, and make sure your emails, meetings, and phone calls are professional. Being too casual on the job may make others feel uncomfortable

6. Check your grammar
Spell check is your best friend on the job. Always proofread anything you type--be it an email, Tweet, or letter. If you're not great at catching  errors, ask someone else to proof it for you.

7. Keep criticism constructive.
If you manage others, you want them to do their best. Work to ensure your comments aren't emotionally charged, and that the person you're speaking with grasps what you're trying to say when giving feedback. Provide positive reinforcement when a job is well-done, and find ways to add in tips for improvement without being "that boss."
8. Restate what you hear.
Rephrasing what your co-worker or boss says to you by repeating the important points shows you are listening and understand what you were told. It gives both parties a chance to clarify if there is any confusion, and by repeating it, you'll remember

9. Get a little personal.
People let their guards down when you talk about their lives outside of work. Ask about a co-worker's kid's soccer tournament. Find ways to interact on a personal level without going too far. You'll go a long way toward building trust

10. Never stop improving.

Effective communication is a skill you must practice. Observe how others respond to your communication to clue you in on areas for improvement.

How to Develop Analytical Skills

In our day to day life whether official, personal or social, we have to deal with complications. Some situations are easy to handle with but other are complex which snatch the peace of mind because our brain gets stuck on how best to handle such state of affair. This is where our Analytical Skills help us.

The prime purpose for the Analysis of any given situation is to get to know the root cause(s) of the issue, to forecast the impact & to plan corrective/preventive actions strategy. So basically analytical skill is to visualize a given situation, task, project or issue from several angles in order to breakdown it into smaller steps.

Below are different situations where our analytical skills are required. I shall give advices in each category accordingly:

1) When Summarizing Large Amount of Data: In this situation, I highly recommend using Pivot Tables feature of MS Excel in order to generate reports. The Pivot Reports feature allows us playing with the data in several ways to generate multi dimensional reports. We can breakdown large amount of data in different sheets to apply Pivot Reports separately as well. Youtube is a very good source of videos for learning this skill. Pivot table can also generate reports for Trends & Forecast in two to three dimensions.

2) When Resolving Conflicts in Office: In this case, listen to all parties which are having difference of opinion. List down the positive & negative input factors & after-effects based on feedback from individuals. Make it in tabular format & review this with your manager to see which one is the best option to go for. Then call for a meeting to elaborate the overall picture based on your fair analysis & convince personnel for the option which is in the best interest of the company.

3) When Being Assigned a large project: in this case you need to make a high level agenda (High Level Project Deliverables) & then start working on WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) & then assign each task to relevant resource. While making WBS you can have a meeting with your Team Leads & other stake holders. You can consider Fishbone diagram to analyze the inputs of any task.

4) When Resolving a Technical issue: The advice here is to consult the product guide to see the possible root causes, consult the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for opinion or consult the Lesson Learnt Register. For all kind of issues resolutions, I always recommend two things. First is to take corrective action to fix the issue, Second to take Preventive Action (fix the root cause permanently) so that the issues does not keep on popping. Six Sigma's DMAIC is recommended way for analyzing & improving. You want to learn Six Sigma, get an introduction from Google.

5) When purchasing something: Let us take the example of mobile phone. When you want to purchase a new mobile you need to ask yourself: do I need touch screen, do I need wifi, do I really need to purchase new mobile, what is my budget? Do I need 5MP camera, do I need iphone or Android, and do I need 4 inch screen or less? What other specs do I need to consider. So basically you are analyzing your demands to come up with the right mobile which is to be purchased.

6) When handling family conflicts: Being a sensitive subject, this is something where you need much more than analytical skills; For each family member involved in the conflict, you have to have sense of feelings, emotions study, stress absorption power, age factor, relationship level & convincing power so in my opinion this is the most difficult part of practicing your analytical skills. You have to consistently guide everyone about 'forgive & forget' policy. You have to calmly listen to each party & take adequate time to analyze all aspects (as mentioned a couple of lines back) vigilantly before concluding something on the brawl.

Conclusion: Analytical skills can make your life easier in almost all aspects of decision making or problem solving; however, it's not only the matter of considering all the options & the inputs, its matter of considering the weight of each option as well. For example, for a given situation you have two options having equal number of advantages or disadvantages so in order to conclude in such situation you have to consider the weight of each option. While doing your analysis you might want to consider the difference between Urgent & Important things.

Develop & sharpen your analytical skills to take steps for reducing stress in your life consequently to ensure peace of mind. - FA

11 proven ways to gain unstoppable confidence

#1 - KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Those who know are ultimately much more confident in any arena than those shrouded in ignorance. Use your spare time to read up on the things that interest you, on the things that you are curious about, and build up a solid base of knowledge and critical thinking. The more you know, the more sure of yourself you will be in any situation.

#2 - EXPERIENCE
Uncertainty is the biggest drain on your self-confidence. Succumbing to doubt ensures you will never believe in yourself. The more often you do something, the more certain you become. With certainty comes confidence.

#3 - CARE-FREE ATTITUDE
Try to walk through your day with as easy and care-free of an attitude as you can muster, because someone who is it ease with him or herself is someone who is confident. Build unstoppable confidence by not getting hung up on the petty issues and minor irritations that help wear you down.

#4 - HONEST SELF-ASSESSMENT
Take stock of yourself. Brainstorm for a bit and compose a list of your good qualities and bad, the things you excel at and the things you need to improve upon, and once you have a clear picture of yourself much of the uncertainty that breeds doubt will wash away.

#5 - ANALYZE
Take the time to properly think through every problem, and the confidence in your skills will grow.

#6 - BE THOROUGH
Try to be as complete and thorough at every task you attempt . Completing tasks builds confidence in your ability to always see projects through to their proper conclusion .

#7 - IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITS, AND EXCEED THEM
Once you have assessed yourself, make a list of goals you wish to accomplish, and get to work. You now know your true limits, so the only thing left to do is push beyond them and set your sights on new frontiers.

#8 - BE OPEN TO HELPING OTHERS
Don't close yourself off to friends, acquaintances and coworkers. The more you put yourself out there in business and social situations, the more quickly you will build confidence in your ability to navigate these sometimes tricky waters.

#9 - COMPOSE YOURSELF
Dress well, groom yourself, compose your identity as a person who is well put together, and you will feel confident when meeting new people and doing new things.

#10 - BE DECISIVE
While it is okay to take time to analyze and think situations through, the time comes when you must be decisive and act. Decisive people are confident; not confident people are decisive.

#11 BE COMPLETE
Know yourself fully, wash away your own doubts about yourself, your identity and your capabilities, and present every aspect of yourself in every situation and you will have no reason to doubt your confidence. Become your full, real self.

Seven Solid Steps to Thinking Big

steps to thinking big 300x199 Seven Solid Steps to Thinking Big
One of my old bosses had a funny habit. He would always walk into his office asking a secretary, “So what heroic exploit do I have planned for today?
At the time this question seemed a joke to me and I did not give it much thought. Only years later after I had changed several jobs, started my own websites and learned a thing or two about human psychology I started to see the real connection between Thinking Big and Accomplishing a Lot.
Oh, have I mentioned that this boss of mine was one of the most productive, creative, intelligent and, definitely, the strangest person I have ever worked with?
He passed away a few years ago, but every time I think of him I catch myself smiling.
Today I want to ask you a question – What heroic exploit have YOU planned for yourself?
Anything daring? Anything fascinating? Anything that will push you out of your comfort zone?
No?!
Then maybe it is time you took a few minutes to turn your mind loose and imagine how you can make this day more memorable, more exciting, and more gratifying.
It really is a pity to live in a Universe full of unlimited possibilities, infinite ideas and thousands of new life experiences and not plan something heroic.
So how about we make a tiny mental effort, set our fears, doubts and excuses aside and start thinking BIG.
Here are 7 Solid Steps that can help:

1. Remove physical boundaries.

Psychologists have recently discovered that the popular self-help phrase “the sky is your limit” is true on a lot more levels than we can imagine. It turns out that just being in a room with higher ceilings or, even better, walking outside, has a consistent impact on people’s thinking. This impact is directly transferred to mental processes. The higher the ceiling in the room is, the more effective we are at creating connections, recalling facts and thinking big.
Try it! Maybe all you need to do to improve your creativity is simply change room.

2. Write your plans on A3 paper or a white board.

This is another trick that helps to expand your thinking. Many creative people instinctively do it right. Some of them have wall-size boards where they brainstorm and write down their ideas. You can do it too, when writing down your plans or your goals. Instead of filling your agenda with a column of tasks, take an A4 or better A3 piece of paper and mind map your to-do list on it. You might be surprised how much easier it is to identify priorities and find the best order to do your tasks.

3. Connect with the right people.

People you spend time with, have the power to belittle your dreams or to open your horizons. To become a big thinker start connecting with extraordinary people, who will inspire you and frequently push you out of your comfort zone.
For example, if you need business advice, write to someone who you consider a business guru. If you are thinking about changing jobs – send your CV to the top-of-the-list companies. What is the worst thing that can happen?
I recently read about an experiment, where a company posted two separate ads in a newspaper for the same position and with the same skill description. The only difference was the salary. One ad offered almost twice the pay of the other one. Guess what happened? Ten times more candidates showed up for the lower-paid job!
Something to think about…

4. Pay attention to your words.

I believe it was Eleanor Roosevelt, who said “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”
It does not mean that in order to become a big thinker, you have to start any small talk by sharing your ideas. It simply suggests that the more your conversations evolve around gossip, corruption, cataclysms or any other topic that stirs negative emotions in you and the people you talk to, the less likely you will be enriched by the communication.

5. Look for the potential.

Train your mind to imagine the possibilities. Give yourself permission to dream big. Learn to see people not as they are, but as they can be!
This might not be something they teach us in college, but this is one of the most important life skills that we will ever need.

6. Practice adding value.

For many of us it may be challenging to think big when it comes to our personal career and plans for the future. However, when we switch our focus from ourselves and concentrate on creating value for others we suddenly find strength, creativity and vision that we never thought we had. As if the whole Universe is collaborating with us to help us achieve our goals.
Truly great thinkers always concentrate on adding value to the world or as Steve Jobs would have said it “putting a dent in the Universe”.You can do the same:
  • Practice adding value to things.
  • Practice adding value to people.
  • Practice adding value to yourself.
Think improvement in everything you do. Think high standards in everything you do!

7. Start Small.

Dreaming big is a great start. The challenge, however, is the transition from the big picture to daily actions. This is where most people get stuck. Every great venture starts out small. Some of the most lucrative companies in the world such as Apple, Mattel and Amazon started in a garage. Starbuck’s Coffee was founded with $18,900 by two high school teachers and a writer. AndMother Teresa began to fulfill her mission of serving the poor by taking a nursing course and teaching children of the slums how to read and write.
No matter how huge or overwhelming the goal may seem, it can be always broken down to simple and very do-able steps.
So what heroic exploit have you have planned for yourself today?
And what is the first step that you can take?

Benefits of Being Polite

The art of conversation has almost died down. People just usually sit and chat in their office breaks about things that are not even worth thinking about. Lets face it; we all are going towards doom where each one of us is talking to pass/kill time. The art of using communication is no more existing. People are concerned about others influence in their lives and not about their influence in others life.
It is an unbelievable thing that an effective communication through polite words can have wonderful impact on you and others lives as well. You can win the hearts of many people, climb the corporate ladder, have promotions but not have wonderful relationship with people around you.
The path to a successful life comes thorough the stairs of politeness. An act of politeness can do wonders that no monetary thing can do. Let us go deep in the art of efficient speaking by these methods.
Talking about ideas and not people
Its truly said, great minds talk about ideas and small minds talk about people. Politeness is an attitude of life. Talking about ideas heightens your politeness towards innovations and stimulates your mind too. This is effective for the speaker and the listener both. To start talking about people you can breathe out all negative energies about anyone: latest crush, which dress she wears, which perfume she uses, her bad attitude. The idea is that everything you talk about people usually comes negative. This develops a feeling of self love and comparison at all means. You do not value your life as much as you do to others.

Using intellect instead of the tongue
Usually people chatter on at length not worrying about the impact it would have on others. Since people are so occupied in themselves theyd rather talk about themselves only. This instigates them to speak rubbish endlessly. Have you ever thought how much of an impact we can have on others by our words? By trying to use our brains before speaking, we will save others sentiments and preserve a healthy relationship between our near ones.
Avoiding gossip

The one who usually starts a gossip or backbiting about someone does not know that he is the one to  have the last laugh. People who start commenting and spreading rumors about others usually end up in a muck of politics and bickering about themselves from the other end. Such people should be avoided at arm's length. Even listening to gossip is as harmful since the listener had the power to listen to negative communication. This unhealthy gossiping could have been stopped if the listener would have ignored the speaker.
Exchange of compliments
We should not limit our compliment intake be restricted to our close relatives. People like our helpers such as servants, cleaners, house maids are those on whom we can count on. Speaking politely to them will ensure that your day is made. They are the ones who offer your services to make your life comfortable. So we should make endeavors to enrich their lives by complimenting and praising them.
Look for positive things in negative people
We all have negative and positive sides. Nobody on this earth has a squeaky clean nature. We all have flaws, however some people are observed negatively by their rude behavior and we become very judgmental about them putting them in the negative category. We should understand that people who are rude have their own weaknesses. They do not choose to be like that. Frustrations at work or domestic front make them act in this behavior. Such people should be offered more help than others comparatively. Talking politely with them will make a difference in their lives and yours too.
Feel positive about you all the time
Quite often we do not realize that we subconsciously become negative. Pent up emotions and unfulfilled desires make us behave rudely towards others and emit negative radiations from the body. Thus we tend to overreact and become rude and harsh to others in some or the other way. This might demolish the social circle that we have. So politeness in the hearts at all means will result in polite attitude.
Whatever is rested in your heart is bound to come out in the open some or the other day. Make sure  you have a prosperous life with a polite attitude and selfless love. This will make you immortal in the hearts of millions as people are going to remember for your polite words and not by your status.
A photographer once clicked a photograph of ex-president of India, Dr. Kalam with a shawl placed on  his shoulder. After the photo shoot was over, the photographer rudely took off the shawl and walked off. The President smiled. After being asked about his composed behaviouir, he politely answered that maybe the photographer needed the shawl more than he did, and continued his work.
People with big positions come and go but it is only their humble nature that draws millions of people towards them. Their polite words filled to the brim with modesty and love melt the hearts of even the rudest amongst the crowd. By talking politely to all we can make an impact on others lives.
